The Music of Universal Horror and Drama Films
This page represents some of Universal's horror and drama films with the music cue listings provided. The majority of the titles were tracked over to the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serial films. In some cases, the feature films had original music composed, with other music cues directly tracked from the studio's library to complete the score. The Werewolf of London and The Raven are two examples of tracked music used in the film's soundtrack.
The moody score heard in Werewolf of London was composed by Karl Hajos for a required number of scenes in the 1935 film. The rest of the music was directly tracked from The Invisible Man and The Black Cat to fit many other scenes in the horror-film. Some of the music cues heard in The Raven were composed by Clifford Vaughan to fit various scenes in the horror-film. Much of the score was directly tracked from The Black Cat to fit other scenes in the horror-film. Some music tracks from Destination Unknown were sporadically used for the 1935 horror-film's music score.
The music composed for Bombay Mail, Destination Unknown, The Black Cat, and The Bride of Frankenstein were inclusive to the films, with no tracked music from the studio's other feature films made in that period. The music score for The Black Cat is listed, along with the original cue titles and classics that Heinz Roemheld paraphrased in the film. More listings of the film scores will be added in the future.
